3rd MROS Crypto Symposium: Focus on international cooperation
Bern, 04.11.2025 — The Money Laundering Reporting Office Switzerland (MROS) at the Federal Office of Police (fedpol) held the 3rd Crypto Symposium on 3 November in Zug. Experts from Switzerland and abroad discussed the latest developments and challenges associated with virtual assets in the context of anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing efforts.
Cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum and Ripple are becoming increasingly popular with criminals. They are not usually monitored by trusted third parties such as financial intermediaries, and they offer a high degree of anonymity. What is more, innovative technologies tend to develop faster than the legal frameworks designed to regulate them.
The 3rd Crypto Symposium in Zug, organised by the Money Laundering Reporting Office Switzerland (MROS), provided a platform for exchange between law enforcement agencies, financial intelligence units (FIUs) and supervisory authorities. The event aimed to promote international dialogue and develop joint approaches to analysing and prosecuting crypto crime.
At this year's event, a representative of the Kazakh Financial Supervisory Authority spoke about the use of new analytical methods to detect criminal activities involving crypto assets. Contributions from the United States Secret Service (USSS) and the Cybercrime Atlas hosted by the World Economic Forum (WEF) emphasised the importance of international cooperation in preventing financial crimes involving cryptocurrencies. The misuse of crypto assets in connection with the distribution of child sexual abuse material was also discussed.
The 3rd Crypto Symposium highlighted the growing importance of exchanging information at international level and technological innovation for combating money laundering effectively. Around 280 participants from nine countries took part in the event.
